Pisgah Works will be in attendance of this year's Snake Creek Gap Series
in Dalton, GA.  I had read about this event in the past.  However, I never
went.   I typically don't race well in January so why bother.  This year, I gotta
call from
Tim Carson.  He and some others were heading down from the
cold of O Hi O.  He had done this race the last 3 years and said "It's an
awesome event and you'd better bring gears and full suspension."  34
miles point to point, 96% single track, 5000ft of climbing.  "I'm in".  I took
both bikes, the SS Dragon and the RacerX.  Deciding which bike to ride
was hard because they're both so much fun.  So I reverted to my last long
ride on the Dragon and realized it's a pretty good idea for me to ride with
gears in the winter.  I hate busting my lungs in the cold and my legs just
aren't there.  At the event, I was surrounded by a bunch of Titus RaxerX's.
Everywhere I turned there was another one.  Usually one to go with the
flow, it was pretty obvious which bike to ride whether my Ego liked it or not.
I'm glad I listened to Tim and the confirmation signs from the Universe.
Thank you.

We were shuttled to the race start, then you ride to the finish(where we
parked).  As for the race, I started pretty easy.  Then, I kinda started to
suffer after an hour or so.  Then I SUFFERED.  When I got to the half way,
17 miles, point I remember feeling like I had been on my bike for 3 hours.
Not cool, considering I was aiming for a 3:20.  I had no idea how long it had
really been since I didn't wear a watch and don't have a computer on my
bike (What for? So I can see how fast I went or know how much farther I
had to go?  Who CARES.  RIDE.)  So I suffered on, getting passed by
women and children.  Props to them.  The last 8 miles of trail was the
hardest on the course.  It was.  There were people caving left and right on
the trail.  Cramping, bonking, bleeding, it was pretty funny seeing them
suffer too.  I saw this dude pull a sweet endo into a rock section.  "Nice line,
dude."  I made some cool passes here.  I was feeling good.  Then I went to
rail some turn and played the no brake game.  As soon as the front end let
go, I remembered I was in the rock garden.  Ooops.  I turned my body into
liquid and flowed over and around rocks without smashing my face.  You
can use that trick too.  I collected myself and suffered on.  And Suffer I did.
It was treacherous.  I finished with a dismal time of 4:17 while my fast
friends finished an hour ahead of me.  Nice race fellas.  I will go back next
month with a month of training under my belt.  Let's see how I improve.

New shirts will be up tomorrow along with some sweet pics from a sweet ride
up the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Until then, may the wind be at your back and
your bike roll uphill.  Next stop,
Thomson Appreciation Day.
